Description
Explore the different immigrant groups that settled in Texas during the mid-1800s with readings and Doodle Notes. This bundle includes 3 versions of the activity – one for regular ed students, one with ELL modifications and one for PreAP/Gifted students.
Students will begin this lesson with a hook analyzing quotes about Texas. They will then read about immigration to Texas and three immigrant groups’ contributions to the Texas – the Germans, the Czech and the Polish. To support the reading, students will be asked to highlight key information and summarize the content in their Doodle Notes. Your students will complete the activity by creating an annotated map showing the contributions of different immigrant groups to Texas.
This resource has been modified for ELL students with Word Wall Terms, simplified readings with PAT (Pay Attention To) questions, and sentence stems on the Doodle Notes. Modified pages are indicated with a star.
A PreAP version is included with additional primary sources and a debate/writing prompt.
