Description
Ruby Bridges is an American who defied the odds and exhibited great courage. What do your students know about her? In this activity, your students will learn about Ruby Bridges in her own words – students will read a story written by Ruby as she describes what her life was like during integration. This is a great way to include a primary source in your instruction. (I have edited the story to lower the vocabulary.)
The activity begins with a 4 Corner preview – it gets your students moving while they think about different characteristics that describe a person who overcomes obstacles. Your students will then read a 4 page story about Ruby Bridge’s experiences as they complete an attribute graph. The lesson is concluded with two different activities – a Human Bar Graph and a Sum It Up.
When you purchase this lesson, you will receive:
-a presentation guiding you through the steps of the activity
-a 3 page story about Ruby Bridges
-an Attribute Graph
-a lesson plan
-4 corner signs
