Dig deep into the content of the Great Storm while your students explore the essential question “Was the Great Storm Galveston’s greatest tragedy or triumph?” through primary sources and background essays.

Students will begin this lesson with a hook analyzing a primary source video clip from Thomas Edison in 1900. They will then read a background essay and discuss the Great Storm and the changes that occurred in Galveston as a result. After they have completed the “Stop and Discuss” Questions embedded into the essay, they will analyze different primary sources on three different documents. An outline will then be used to guide students in the final step, writing an essay using the documents.
