Using Connection Cards to Enhance Vocabulary Instruction

If you are like me, you are always looking for a new way to utilize your Word Wall. Recently I was playing around with different ways to highlight my vocabulary terms and I came up with this game – Connection Cards for a Word Wall.   Here are the simple directions – download the free cards here.

Teacher Directions:

1.These cards are designed to encourage students to interact with your word wall. You will need your vocabulary terms posted in a word wall for this activity.

2.Prep the activity by printing and cutting out several sets of the connection cards.

3.Place students with a partner – tell them they will be competing against each other to see who can earn the most points in a vocabulary game.

4.Place a stack of cards in either the front of the room or between the students.  Each student will draw a card.  When they complete the task on the card, they will earn the points indicated. Each person can earn up to 10 points each round.

5.Play the game for 5-10 minutes and then allow your students to tally up their points.

6. Declare the student with the most points the winner and give them a round of applause.

7. Pat yourself on the back for a clever way to reinforce vocabulary!
