Description
Try something different for the first day of school this year – introduce yourself through artifacts! Turn your students into historians as they dig through artifacts to discover the truth about a mysterious individual – their new teacher. This lesson guides your students through an activity where they examine artifacts, create a timeline, draw inferences and create a character collage of their teacher. It puts them in the roll of junior historians – kicking off the first day of school in a fun and meaningful way!
Your purchase includes:
– A presentation to guide your students through the lesson
– A handout for student to use to create a timeline for the individual they are investigating
– A handout that helps your students draw inferences from the artifacts
– Sample artifacts to use as a guide (some of my own)
– Artifacts from Abraham Lincoln – if you want to use them instead of your own
While I have included some of my own artifacts to use as a sample, this will work best with your own. So search out your scrapbook, find the old yearbook and pull out that last movie ticket. Create an authentic experience for your students. If you can’t find what you are looking for – you can always use the artifacts from Abraham Lincoln as a back-up. It still provides students with a meaningful primary source experience.
